Water intoxication

The new NCIS tonight is about a man who was killed by someone who slipped him some ecstasy causing unquenchable thirst,

then drowned him internally by providing him with the water that would cause Water Intoxication and thus death.

WHAT!?!?!?!

First, I thought, "How is it possible to drink enough water to kill yourself?" Then, "What kind of sick mind would think to do such a thing?"

The amount of creativity that it takes to think up a killer that would think up this kind of a murder is astonishing, but what is more astonishing is that they've found a way to market and sell these kinds of story lines and here I am watching it. Why? Why am I fascinated by these kinds of TV shows and the highly creative murders in them?

I don't have a answer today, but coming up on Halloween I am wondering if our fascination and infatuation with cruel and gruesome stories, movies, and TV shows isn't doing more damage to our sense of reality than we realize. What do you think? Like I said I don't have answers I'm just thinking out loud.
